My Journey of discovery – part 4
Posted on | March 28, 2008 | No Comments
Today is the weigh in day. It is 4.12pm and I have been worrying all day about the weigh in. Particularly because it is my first one. I didn’t do too badly over Easter – however I wasn’t a saint either. So this leads me to believe that I should worry about tonight, and hope for the best.
As many of you know you can’t always be perfect and after all losing the weight is only part of it, you really have to make some life changes and make it stick. There is no going back now. I have made a few changes and they are simply eat breakfast and have snacks during the day. Where as before I would not eat anything till lunch and then I found myself starving all day.
This is not recommended by professionals, and I have done really well with it, I only skipped two days this week. I think this is due to the weather change and the fact that I am feeling a little fluey; I have not been sleeping well and am sleeping in this week. Next week will be better I am sure.
Because I have only just started this my schedule has been disrupted by Easter and therefore I am all over the place. Next week is a fresh week and I am sure I will be able to keep it up.
Next Wednesday I have my first Personal Trainer session and I am sure that it will make a big impact on my exercise regime. I will keep you posted with tonight’s weigh in and keep you updated next week on my progress.
Wish me luck!
Ok girls, I went to my weigh in and you wouldn’t believe I put on 12 kgms in one week. This apparently is normal when you have scales that go up to 150kg. When you are at that range the scales are not reading you properly. Needless to say I had a heart attack.
Since I have started exercising I have found that I have been having PMS symptoms but yet my period does not come. Hence the reason I am so bloated, not to mention that I had dinner before I weighed in. And my dinner choice was not the best. I had BBQ chicken, chips and Greek salad. Bad move on my part.
However my instructor said that when you weigh in after 7pm and just exercised plus ate dinner your weight would not show accurately. Not to mention that I was feeling ill and bloated.
The good news is that she said that I have been eating breakfast and trying to eat healthier and that count for something. So all in all a bad week but a good one too.

I have survived Easter folks. What a challenge that was. The good news is that I didn’t eat not one chocolate. The bad news is that I did over eat but the foods were not that bad. I had BBQ one day and a roast on the other with vegatables. I tried to drink water and did for the most part and I even managed to do a workout, thanks to my neighbour. You know the one that is also my weight consultant at Fernwood. Because the Gym was closed on Good Friday she asked if I would like to join her in a pump class at her house.
How could I refuse? And I didn’t – let me tell you she worked me really hard and I just felt fantastic. The next day I wasn’t in that much pain and so you can tell that this exercise plan is working for me already. In just a short week and a half I am already starting to feel better and much more alert, this is due to the eating breakfast thing.
Who would have known that you would feel so much better after eating in the morning. I am very pleased about that. Now I have my weigh in on Thursday this week and I am nervous because the Easter feasts and all, but I will keep you posted.
This eating planning thing was harder then I thought, when you have to consider another person it can be difficult to eat healthier. After all you don’t want your significant other to starve because you are eating much healthier foods.
But all in all it went ok in my books and you can only do your best at this time of year. Lets all give a round of applause for Katly’s will power not to eat Chocolate.

You may have heard some hype about the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids to our health. The details of Omega 3 fatty acids are varied and can be of use to a number of elements in ones health.
Recently I read a blog that did a piece on Omega-3 fatty acids that I found very interesting and found it very informative and so will you. This is another link found on Angie all the way’s article Dr Ho – Omega-3. You ask what is Omega 3? Well below is an explanation.
Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that the body needs. The body itself cannot produce it, and so it is found in the foods we eat. The foods that contain this fatty acid are mostly found in the sea, but other foods contain it as well such as nuts. The above link will show you all the foods that contain Omega 3 fatty acids.
All links provided will give you all the information you need to make your own determination about Omega-3 fatty acids. I urge people to please always consult your physician prior to taking anything.

It is Monday 17th March 2008 and I have had my first appointment with my Simplicity coach and induction to the use of the machines at the Gym. My appointment with the Simplicity coach was about weighing in, measurements taken, I was given a plan to follow about what food to eat and how much. I also had my photo taken and put into my file.
I weighed in at a whopping 140 Kg’s. This was not a shock because the last time I got weighed at a health club before Christmas they weighed me in at 154 Kg’s. So needless to say I was happy about that. However, this did not make me happy. I wondered how I let myself get to this.
We went through my goals and what I think are my assets, etc and just had a simple chat about what I am doing here and how it took courage to make the first step by coming in. This was very difficult for me because I felt that I couldn’t really do this.
But I was here and we chatted a little more and then I went and saw another young lady who showed me the treadmill’s and bikes and rowing machines etc. We just went through how to use them and established that I would do a half hour session combining a few different machines.
My next appointment will go through the weight training machines and Ill be doing my first work out that night. Keep tuned.
My journey of discovery – Part 1

Ladies come and join me on my journey into the world of fitness. Yes I have joined Fernwood Gymnasium for women. Today I went with my neighbour who also just happens to be an instructor at Fernwood, to do her pump class. For those of you who don’t know what this is let me explain.
A pump class is simply a weight-training workout. You use a bar and your weights are on either side of the bar. I can not even begin to tell you how terrified I was to do this, but as you also know that I am trying to have a baby I knew that this opportunity came along and I had to at least go and see what it was all about and try it.
My neighbour and I were talking last week and I was telling her about how at my job I sit most of the day, then when I come home from work I sit in my study doing work on my website. I told her that I was thinking of coming to check out the Gym and see what classes I could do, with my weight and low fitness level. She suggested that I come to her Pump class on Saturday.
She sent me a text message last night, which I didn’t get and in that message she just wanted to know if we were still on today. When I didn’t reply she thought for sure I chickened out. So she thought she would come around in the morning and ask anyway.
When she arrived I was just about to put my sneakers on, to her surprise I was almost ready to go. Because I was in a rush this morning I didn’t eat breakfast, this is the first thing she asked me. Did I have breakfast? I didn’t and so then she thought I would pass out in her class, and to her surprise I managed to finish the whole class with only a few times stopping.
She was really bowled over when I actually took up a membership after her class. What I am trying to say here is that sometimes people under estimate us and we do this to us too. My first induction is on Monday, the second on Wednesday and I hope you join me on this journey of self-discovery and wellness. Who knows if I can make this work, it will inspire you to follow in my footsteps?
You know that if you ever want to email me about anything at all you are all welcome, to ask questions, simply to tell me about your own situation, together we can get through anything. Wish me luck!

Easter is upon us again and no doubt we are all wondering what will we do for Easter feasts. I know I worry about it all the time because you always try to eat healthy and then you go to a party and they have nothing healthy on the menu. Here are some healthy recipes that you can use at Easter time and they will look fantastic and taste great too.
Salad Tortillas are a nice way to eat something tasty but not put those kilograms on, we also have these great recipes to choose from that are all healthy alternatives. Lets not forget Good Friday when all good Christians can only eat fish. These seafood ideas can also be brought into our Easter Feasts instead of the heavy food we end up eating. Now that it is still very warn in Melbourne there is no other more enjoyable way to spend Easter then throw some seafood on the BBQ.
For those with a sweet tooth, take a look at the links above and you will find some yummy sweets to satisfy your sweet tooth. All these recipes are curtesy of MSN, lifestyles and recipe finder. Enjoy your Easter and lets hope it’s a safe one.
Bulimia

Bulimia is very distressing to everyone. The pressure at school or home, media has become in your face so much that young men and women and adults feel the need to be thin. So much is this pressure felt that people have gone crazy with their health. The throwing up, dieting, excessive exercise has become the normal thing for these people, a way of life.
What are the causes of Bulimia? This is the question on everyone’s mind. There are many reasons for it, but you should know what the symptoms are. These symptoms are what you should look for if you suspect that your loved one has Bulimia. It is important that you realise that telling them that they are not overweight and that they look fine won’t help matters. They have all these negative feelings stored in their heads and you telling them that it is ok just won’t help.
However, with treatment, Bulimia can be overcome. This will be a long process but will be worth it. What we don’t realise is that there are many health issues associated with this disease. If you have a child that has Bulimia you should point out that there are plus size models out there like Crystal Ren on the Cat Walk that shine and are absolutely beautiful, they look healthy and happy and are gorgeous. There is no need for them to take drastic measure to lose weight and be unhealthy.
How much is too much to pay for clothing?

Ever since I have started buying plus size clothing I have been outraged that if you want to buy a tee shirt you pay over $50.00. Why is it when you go to K-Mart or Target you only pay $10-20 for a smaller size tee. I have now been buying on line for about 1 year and found that if you buy in USA their pricing is cheaper even after the exchange rate and freight. Whilst you have to wait longer to obtain your goods I found that I refused to pay that much money for one item of clothing.
If you are like me and earn a minimum wage you will all too know how it is when you can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars on clothing. You know how it is bills, mortgage, and groceries. You make your own comparisons and you will see the savings.
I think that because there is a demand for plus size clothing in Australia the retail stores think that they can charge what they like because we need clothing and therefore we will pay what ever it takes. Or so you would think. After hours of research and searching for online stores I found that there is a much better way to dress well and not kill the old pocket in the process.
I have found that the UK pound is quite expensive for us Aussies. As at today 28/2/08 the conversion rate for £50.00 to AUD is $105.33. There is a big difference in the pricing there. For $50.00 USD converted to AUD is $53.0920. Use this as an example and use the rate converter from XE to check how much this will cost you.
